Red Light Therapy

Light that helps tissue heal.

Light therapy that supports cellular energy and tissue repair, calms irritated tissues and eases soreness — used consistently as part of a broader treatment plan.

Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy exposes tissue to specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light. At Postura it is used as an adjunct alongside manual treatment and exercise — supporting recovery and comfort between sessions rather than as a treatment on its own.

Who it’s for

Anyone recovering from strain or inflammation, and those wanting faster recovery between sessions.

How it works

Specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light reach muscle and joint tissue, supporting cellular energy production and calming inflammation.

What it treats

  • Muscle soreness
  • Joint inflammation
  • Stiffness
  • Slow-healing strains
  • Recovery between treatments

What a session involves

You sit or lie with the panel positioned over the area for roughly 10 to 20 minutes. Eye protection is provided. There is nothing to feel beyond gentle warmth, and you can go straight back to your day afterwards.

When to see a doctor instead

Tell your practitioner if you are taking medication that increases light sensitivity, or if you have a skin condition affecting the area. See a doctor rather than booking a session if pain follows a significant fall or accident, if you have numbness or weakness in an arm or leg, if you lose control of your bladder or bowels, or if pain comes with fever, unexplained weight loss or night pain that wakes you. These are signs that need medical assessment first.

Questions patients ask.

It is used to support tissue recovery and comfort. The evidence base is still developing and it is best understood as something that supports a treatment programme rather than replaces one.

It is non-invasive and does not use ultraviolet light. Eye protection is used, and sessions are kept to a set duration.

Gentle warmth, and nothing else. There is no recovery time.

Roughly 10 to 20 minutes over the area, usually alongside other treatment rather than as a separate visit. Frequency depends on what is being treated and is set as part of your plan.

No. Sunbeds use ultraviolet light, which damages skin. Red light therapy uses red and near-infrared wavelengths and does not tan or burn.

Eye protection is used for anything near the face. Tattooed skin absorbs more light and can warm up faster, so tell your practitioner and the settings will be adjusted.

It is developing rather than settled. That is why it is offered here as something that supports a treatment programme, not as a treatment on its own, and it should be judged on that basis.
